Loin de la Route
Tahiti, 1903.

17-28th August 2018
(…) The program invites us this year to cross the history of Congo-Brazzaville and Congo-Kinshasa. Of course, there will be many European films on the subject, from the magnificent portrait of Patrice Lumumba by Raoul Peck to documentaries inspired by Thierry Michel, to the works of Belgian Samuel Tilman and Portuguese Hugo Vieira da Silva. But it will be especially a unique opportunity to discover the young creation from Central Africa, through, for example, focus on Ori-Huchi Kozia (Orisha 2017), Goddo Hamadi , Bob Nelson Makengo, Sammy Baloji or Mweze Ngangura. A tribute will also be paid to photographer Kiripi Katembo, who died in 2015 at the age of 36 (…)

The 66th edition of BERLINALE will run from 11th to 21st February.
Produced by Paulo Branco the new feature film “An 0utpost of progress” (2015/16) was shot in Angola at the River Congo locations of Soyo, Porto do Pinda and Porto Rico, it was edited in Vienna (Austria) at Prima Film GmbH with the Portuguese editor Paulo Milhomens. Sound design/editing and mix (António Lopes) were finished in Lisbon.
The feature film “An outpost of progress” is a Portuguese mimicry of the J.Conrad short story originally published in 1897 by the magazine “cosmopolis”. The film uses Conrad’s short story as departing point for a kind of tropical colonial masquerade.
The film features Portuguese actors Ivo Alexandre and Nuno Lopes. The main cast includes also the actor David Caracol from Luanda (Angola). All other cast was local.
